NEW PATIO!

They finished our patio yesterday! We are super excited and hoping to get some plantings done today to make the backyard feel a bit more established. I have had one heck of a cold and am pretty sure I dislocated my jaw coughing so hard-so off to the doctor I go this morning. I have really depended upon extra strength tylenol pretty severely this week. The week consisted of driving to about 20 different cities and conducting some type of deposition...I am tired. Next week is crazy too!

Here is to hoping to a restful weekend!
Here are some patio pics from last night:

Boooooo.

Our patio is delayed another week. All I have to say is Colorado, you really need to pull yourself together:
I mean, really-what is this? Seattle.

No More Diapers

Hudson went his first full day with NO diapers today. It was cold turkey and it was a split, rash decision. He just hasn't been ready, but as of late I really do believe he is ready and he is starting preschool finally, officially in September. For real this time :) He will start full time school in March 2014 (right before his fourth birthday) because the baby will take his place in the nanny share, so we have decided to get him started early doing part times over my maternity leave. It is montessori, and he HAS to be potty trained and I do not want to start this right before this baby arrives.

So how did it go? Answer: pretty good actually. I am tired because I think I stressed out more than he did. The morning started with a diaper and I just took it off and told him-you do not have a diaper on, so if you need to go potty, tell me. Well, he wanted that diaper. I think to some extent he has created an emotional connection with the diapers, which is why we really can't go back now if we are going to succeed at this. I need to get him to create an emotional connection with his big boy underwear. We are putting him in overnight pull-ups at night.

He only had one accident today, and stayed clean all through dinner out tonight and a shopping trip at target, as well as this morning for 3 hours before his nap.

I have decided we are biting the bullet and somehow we are going to get this done. We may occasionally revert to pull-ups this week while he is busy doing fun birthday activities, like for his party when I don't want to worry about it-but we are going cold turkey. I think he is finally getting used to the idea that he does not have to have a diaper to feel secure. Hudson is so sensitive and loves the little things in life, like minnie mouse on his diaper :) With him, change is hard and you have to try to do it slowly and make it fun. But with this-I feel like we have to just do it or it won't ever happen. So...we did.

We took him to target and let him pick out some more fun big boy underwear because he just didn't seem to care about the others he already had and I wanted it to be cool and fun. He picked out cars underwear and when we got home, put on his mater underwear over his pull-up for bed. Such a cute boy. Small steps.

Wish us luck!!

Operation Big Boy Room Underway

Well after several months of contemplating, we are on our way to a big boy room for my Hudson:

I ordered these items as his 3rd birthday gift. We were going to go more neutral but I decided I want color and fun! We also have some vintage photos of VW vans to hang on the walls. The theme is multi-functional and can change easily as his interests change (i.e. dinos, fish and beach (which is big right now in his mind, etc).

I am also making the kids bathroom more kid friendly as we get ready for baby #2 and going with the Hungry Caterpillar theme. I bought two rugs and the shower curtain this morn:

I also finally bought Hudson a personalized stool as we ramp up potty training in our house. It is underway to a new level. We will see if we get any results. We are about to pull out a rewards chart I found on amazon and put that into effect. Hoping!

Into Week 16!

Can't believe this pregnancy is going so fast. I am really starting to show now and this baby is growing like a weed. I will try to get a belly shot sometime today now that it is saturday. Work has been pretty busy and of course H keeps us busy in the evenings.

Weather permitting, our patio will start on tuesday and be finished by friday! Let's hope the rain and snow stay away as we are so excited to have our backyard in working order. We are outside summer weather people, and Hudson has been loving his backyard on the warm days.

In other news I have been trying to figure out what baby items I will need to buy for this new bundle. It is looking like I will buy new bedding (something neutral), a coming home outfit (girl and boy both), diapers, creams, lotions, all the general care stuff, a new changing pad cover to match the room, and some decor items.

I already bought a new diaper bag and I am in love with it:

It is a lot less orange in person and more peach (which I really like lately).

We already started buying diapers and I will move onto size 1 soon to try to start stocking up.

Today we are headed to the zoo and then I have a baby shower for an awesome friend of mine who is adopting a 9 month old baby girl next week!!! So exciting. Life is exciting and I am glad it is almost summer!
